| Water supply remains
disrupted for fifth consecutive day |
Several areas of the city received no water for the fifth consecutive
day on Tuesday. People with empty receptacles roamed around looking
for water for domestic purposes. Widespread resentment among people
has also been reported over the non-availability of water. People
waited in long queues to get water through tankers. Slums and rural
areas were particularly affected. Meanwhile, Bhopal Municipal
Corporation (BMC) is expected to supply water to all areas with full
pressure from Wednesday. The BMC has hired three private tankers for
this purpose. It has also hired a hydrant. Damage to Kolar conduit
pipeline for the third time in recent days and repairs thereof led
to no supply of water even on Tuesday. The supply remained stalled
for the second day on Tuesday and for the fifth day overall in the
last eight or 10 days.
People were angry that water tankers were not sent on time.
People have expressed displeasure over the water distribution system.
MP Nagar resident Deepak Chandel and member of the local development
committee Santosh Nagle were perplexed why the pipeline sustained
damage in summers only. They said water was not supplied even in regulation
time and no time was set for supply of water. Residents of Saket Nagar
echoed similar sentiments. Gopal Saxena, an anguished resident of
the area, questioned why no tanker was sent to the area when the municipal
corporation had announced about it.
Residents of Ashoka Garden, New Subhash Nagar, Padamnabh Nagar,
Mata Mandir, Jawahar Chowk and certain other localities searched frantically
for water. A similar crisis was witnessed in Bhim Nagar, where a resident
stated that just one water-tanker had visited the area in two weeks.
Supply was made in Arera Colony, Char Imli, 74 Bungalows, Kotra
and some other areas at reduced pressure. Taps ran for just ten
or 15 minutes in these areas.
Residents said that the BMC will have to improve its functioning.
Md Sarwar of the Water Works Department of the corporation said that
over a lakh residents of the city are dependent on water supply through
tankers, which has
posed a problem in the availability of tankers. The residents said
that the corporation would anounce almost everyday that normal supply
would resume in a day, but that day has not come.
