No learning by rote, students to get
projects: National Focus Group for Teaching Social Science, a group formed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training will come up with a project book for Class 9 by the end of the summer vacations. The project book will help to sensitise the students towards their surroundings and make them contribute towards its betterment. The experts are trying to make projects mentioned in the project book relevant for more than one subject in particular. |

Environmental awareness campaign
launched: Dy CM Dr Wilfred de Souza launched an environmental awareness campaign under National Green Corps Movement supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, the department of Science, Technology and Environment and the Directorate of Education, Government of Goa. He advised the students to be eco-friendly and concern of their immediate environment and build a spirit of environment consciousness within and outside the school for better and cleaner Goa. |

Symposium on green chemistry: To address the concerns associated with environment, University of Delhi alongwith with New Jersey Institute of Technology and organised the Second International Symposium on Green Chemistry. The symposium was organised in New Delhi from January 10 to January 13, 2006. The symposium also focussed on emerging green chemicals, processes and technologies and their applications in different industries. The platform shall also extend a constructive discussion on collaborations among academia, Government and industry scientists for green and sustainable chemistry. |

For schools, a `clean and green street`
drive: An ambitious programme to spread the message of waste segregation was launched recently by Loyola College, Chennai, Tamilnadu and Exnora International. The "Clean and Green Street" programme aims at environmental awareness among students and especially the public about the collection of solid waste, its segregation and the composting of bio-degradable waste by forming aerobic composting pits in schools. The schools will also plant saplings on adjacent streets to improve the green cover, said the organisers. ITC taps schools with green project The ITC-owned Sunfeast brand, as part of its effort to promote environmental awareness amongst school children, launched the second phase of the Hara Banao week nationwide at 441 schools. The initiative involves the participation of school children in activities like signature campaigns, on slogans like Say no to plastic and other such related projects. The project was aimed at spreading the message of recycling and protecting the environment, the company said in a release issued here today. It would be run through Nature Clubs formed in 441 schools during the first phase of the Sunfeast Hara Banao campaign. |
