CNG: Time to call off collisions and carry out court orders

The CNG case has turned into an unrivalled cause celebre with the most decisive of outcomes. The Supreme Court has contained the CNG controversy with an unprecedented judgement, conclusively putting to rest all the speculations raised time and again.

In an unusual and unexpected gesture, it has raised a host of frequently asked questions on the subject, answered them and even set signposts on how to proceed on the matter to resolve the current crisis.

The Supreme Court word should be considered final but efforts are already building up to sabotage the orders.

In a cautionary move, the Court has in no uncertain terms said: " It is made clear, and it is obvious in our constitutional setup, that orders and directions of this Court cannot be nullified or modified or in any way altered by any administrative decision of the central or the state governments."

Despite such clear directions, the central government in collusion with the state government is making efforts to promulgate an ordinance and derail the efforts of the Court.

This is alarming because the order is not limited only to the capital but lays down clear guidelines for the rest of the country as well.
