THE FUTURE OF WATER SECURITY IS HERE
There was a time when water harvesting was a concept, driven by the  realisation of the wealth of traditional systems to harvest rain. The  world has moved on. From the high-rises of Singapore to the parched expanses of Madhya Pradesh, water is harvested today to counter varying  needs. The most encouraging aspect is that the force behind this is not just the civil society now. Government policy has taken the cue. Take a look at some shining examples of conquering thirst at

NEPAL FOLDS UP DECENTRALISATION OF FOREST MANAGEMENT
Nepal took a bold step in 1993 to save its forests. It handed them over  to forest user groups, accepting that the forests are best preserved by those who depend on them for livelihood. After tremendous success of the move, the government of the Himalayan kingdom has done a volte-face. It has decided to hand over the forests back to the forest epartment. This move is bound to rebound, as it has in India. Find out how at

INDIGO: THE REBIRTH
Indigo is closely associated with India's freedom struggle -- Mahatma Gandhi launched the freedom struggle in Champaran, Bihar, after seeing the way the British colonialists were exploiting the indigo farmers of the area. The crop disappeared from Bihar thereafter. Now, a school principal has reintroduced the crop as a means to fetch better revenue for the poor farmers of the region. How successful is he? Visit

WIND POWER IN INDIA
Renewable energy is fast becoming the buzzword in the international power sector. Countries in Europe, in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, are moving towards use of power produced from renewable sources like wind. Wind power is an attractive proposition for India - it can help meet our Kyoto Protocol targets and reduce noxious emissions. India's dependence on conventional energy continues to drain it economically and irreparably harm public health. India's terrain and geography provides great potential for wind power generation, but it is yet to be tapped. For more statistics visit the link below.
