What is Energy Management?

A lot of emphasis is being given on the renewable energy sources all over the world. Traditional energy sources are coal and water. From coal, we get thermal power and from water we get hydel power. But apart from these, there is huge potential for development of alternative energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, ocean energy, bio mass energy, etc. An energy manager's main job is to develop energy conservation strategies, planning, and implementation of the plans, manage energy consumption in industries, develop uses of alternative energy sources, and conduct energy audit of industries.

Various private sector companies are also investing in renewable energy sources. Many companies in the manufacturing sector have set up or are setting up energy management cell. Various engineering and management consultant firms are also setting up energy management cell. Apart from these, various energy consultancy & audit firms have also started business. In fact a separate ministry has been set up for this segment.

You should better have a bachelor degree in Energy Engineering or a M.E / M. Tech in Energy Engineering. With any other engineering degree (graduate or post graduate), you may also land up in Energy Management function. A post graduate degree/diploma in energy management can also get you a job.
